The AGTC
“The AgTC has grown to become the principal voice of agricultural exporters in US transportation policy.”
The Agriculture Transportation Coalition (AgTC) was founded in 1987 with the objective of assuring transportation service which allows U.S. ag exporters to be competitive in the international market. Although we now handle many other issues of concern to ag exporters, ocean shipping issues continue to be our priority.
- Monitors government and commercial activity on ocean, truck, rail, port shipping and other transportation developments.
- Keeps AgTC members up-to-date on how these will impact their business.
- Hosts workshops around the country attracting top executives from carriers, ports, and transportation companies engage in conversation with attendees.
- Lobbies the Congress when necessary to change laws that would harm agriculture interests, or to support laws that will benefit agriculture.
- Assists AgTC members on an individual basis with transportation-related problems.
What We Provide
AgTC Updates
Probably our most useful service is our frequent e-mailed updates on all transportation developments. Our members know what’s going on before they read about it in the newspapers or hear about it from the carriers (or have a shipment delayed or rejected). The sooner our members are informed, the better equipped they are to make sound transportation decisions.
Ag Shipper Workshops
We host Ag Shipper Workshops throughout the country each year to discuss current transportation issues in a roundtable forum. These workshops provide an excellent opportunity for candid discussion of concerns and to learn what other companies are doing to resolve similar transportation challenges.

AgTC Membership
Membership is limited to agriculture exporters and importers, to freight forwarders of US ag exports, to agriculture trade associations, and to State Departments of agriculture. Virtually every ag export commodity is represented in the AgTC membership, including citrus, hides, beef, poultry, fresh fruit, grapes, nuts, dried fruit, dairy, cotton, meats, vegetables, organics, processed foods, seeds, potatoes, frozen foods, hay, ag chemicals, wine, coffee, rice, etc. Membership dues are based on size of company, reflected in the prices on the previous page.
agtrans.org
Our website is a valuable resource for agriculture exporters and importers. Included are export documentation (AES) detail, Wood Packing Material requirements, U.S. Trade Agreements, Trucking Hours of Service, State and Federal Truck Weight Limits, etc.
AgTC Ocean Carrier Performance Survey
Each year ocean carriers await the result of our annual survey, which ranks the carriers from best to worst. It has served to motivate some carriers to work with ag shippers to improve documentation and booking service — with tangible results!
Voice of Ag Shippers
Not only do we provide our members advance notice of coming new policies and rules, we take part in the policymaking process. Our comments to Congressional committees and Executive Agencies give agriculture shippers a voice in federal transportation decisions.
Information Resources
We respond to individual member’s inquiries as they arise. Members know that if they have a question regarding ocean transportation, we can often provide them with an answer by the end of the day. If we don’t have the information readily available, we usually know where to find it.
Career Center
The AgTC lists job openings and provides alerts on opportunities at Member companies.
